The desert breeze scatters my petals.” Anonymous Afghan woman Despite, or because of, her perpetual quest for fulfillment and the gathering of her feminine and masculine in a harmonious whole, the woman finds herself hostage to a sibylline paradox. She, the object of infighting, who unknowingly draws the fire of jealousy. She, a weapon of war, whom the oppressors seek to destroy to defeat their enemies. She, who sees the men of her life kill each other in her name. SHE is the Feminine who cries.

Poet & theatre director Maya Wuytack explores the poetics of the speaking body and the language of senses. She creates a dialogue between language and what is older than language: the primal poetry of the skin. On this border between inner and outer worlds an intimate dance unfolds between the dream and the dreaming body. Together with dancer Mileen Borgonjon she creates a hypnotic physical score in which body and poetry merge. Taking the camera so close to the skin, the body becomes universal. These ‘skinespheres’ reveal a moving abstraction of our human condition. Soaking the imagination to the underlying life forces, more pure and inexplicable than our everyday 'identities'.

Submerge connects conceptual film with choreography that has been brought underwater. Amidst the distorted-daydream atmosphere we experience physical changes to movement transferred from a studio into an underwater setting. Time manipulation, textures, experimental choreography and a warped perspective are intertwined with a space where other movement possibilities can occur.

la grande aventure de Milo et Mila is an exploration of the transformative art of drag through contemporary dance, and the challenge of storytelling without language. Having a personal performance history in drag, under the pseudonym Mila Dramatic, I am interested in finding the elements of the drag craft that can be used to generate movement, convey emotion and propel narrative. Collaborator Ellie Bishop’s perfectly candid character was a driving comedic force in the creative process, and the project would not have been possible without her generosity and input.
An Isle of Noises, 2017

An Isle Full Of Noises is a modern reimagining of Caliban's "Be not afeard" speech from The Tempest, shot with a hand-built drone lighting system designed to paint the nighttime landscape with light. David Oyelowo (Selma, A United Kingdom) is an award-winning stage and screen actor and narrates Caliban’s speech for the film. Jamie Whitby is a commercial filmmaker based in London whose work earned him the Best Cinematography prize at the Film London Awards.
