2026 Commissioning Fund PROGRAM

Information Overload!!!

The Commissioning Fund Program is the beating heart of FORM. Since 2015, this program has carved a space for Youth and Emerging artists to nourish their artistic sensibilities and leadership skills through creating a new movement-based film. Over the past six months, four artists have transformed their unique ideas and perspectives on movement into the visual language of cinema. Their ideas are developed through peer-to-peer discussions, creative workshops, and tailored mentorship with professional artists in the community. A new approach to the program, this year’s cohort was invited to interpret the theme of information overload through their projects.

We’re honoured to support these artists’ endeavours as they embrace the expansive potential of movement-on-screen and redefine what filmmaking processes can look like. Catch the World Premieres of the 2026 Commissioned Artists’ films at the Information Overload!!! screening on November 8.

This program is made possible by Commissioning Fund Production Partners: Cineworks, VIVO Media Arts Centre, Charles Street Video, Main Film, and PRIM.

2026 Mini Commissions Program

Catch the Mini Commissions’ World Premieres on our Instagram @formvancouver on November 7.

The Mini Commissions Program is a space for high-school aged Youth (15-18) to experiment with movement and film in a supportive environment. Tasked with creating a 1-3 minute short film that utilizes movement to respond to the theme of information overload, artists participate in skill-building workshops on producing, sound design, and experimental editing over the summer. They also receive mentorship from Co-Artistic Director Erin Lum to develop their creative ambitions into a completed project. Exploration, experimentation, and education are key values that guide this program.

FORM has seen firsthand the power that young people have when their creative voices are empowered. After a two-year hiatus, we’re thrilled to support these inspiring young artists as they boldly share their ideas with the world through the return of this program.

Following the festival, join us for a special screening of Youth-made films from past and present years of the Mini Commissions Program in partnership with Richmond Media Lab.
