Since FORM’s inception, themes of technology and interaction have been woven throughout our programming. Impetus by Katria Phothong-McKinnon, FORM’s 2024-2025 Technology and Interaction Artist In Residence, is an interdisciplinary performance and tech based installation that explores identity, digital existence and cultural preservation through the meeting points of classical Thai dance, Voguing, w*acking and new media.

At the heart of the work are two 16x16x16 LED matrix cubes: one manufactured, embodying a digital record of movement, the other hand soldered, symbolizing presence beyond what is seen and the hidden labour behind technology. Together, they aim to reveal and explore how cultural and human experiences are fragmented, mediated, and constrained within digital and non digital systems. Navigating through the benefits and drawbacks of technology on culture and identity, Impetus frolics in the grey of how and what we use technology for.
