Amidst the fast-paced nature of a day, Public Screens: Elongating Pace shifts the rhythm of the city to reveal an alternative heartbeat for an urban landscape. It extends an invitation to pause in your path and turn your attention to be with someone or something’s presence in a public space. Spanning across various locations in Metro Vancouver, our daily commutes become choreographies with the movements of these screens.
Handwritten letters to grandparents and heartfelt reflections from childhood selves reveal lineages that unravel across time, space, and distance. This collection of short films investigates disconnection and ritual through an embodied multi-media lens, offering earnest meditations on how identity is shaped and transformed.
Traversing across vibrant imagined outerspaces to the dynamic city streets of Brasil, this collection of films reenergizes our understanding of the ways that street dance(s) interact with the camera. Tied together through the rituals of exchange and connection, these films become living archives of street dance communities near and far, commemorating the people keeping the culture alive.
In this movement and filmmaking workshop led by Kosi Eze, we examine the significance of archival and contemporary footage on the future imaginaries of street and club dance. Inspired by the format of Kosi’s @yuckmouthsessions, participants will engage with movement ideas gathered from case study footage to create a short film by the end of the workshop.
Join us in celebrating FORM’s 11th year with a party, cypher competition, and music by DJ Rita Spirit! One cypher royalty winner will be selected by a secret judge to receive a cash prize and a Top 8 spot in Cypher Killa Vol. 4 happening in December.
Narratives continue to reveal themselves through firsthand accounts of diasporic coming of age, migration, disability, and colonization spanning the remaining collection of works featured in When We Perceive the Personal. We are left to feel the imprints of these intimate moments. How have our attunements to our world shifted?
Following the When We Perceive the Personal screening, this panel discussion brings together filmmakers involved in the festival and artists in our community to collectively reflect on the stories we’ve experienced on screen. Films can extend beyond the cinema and inspire us over the days, months, and years that follow watching a work. How do stories of migration, diaspora, and personal discovery continue to inform artists as storytellers and the audience members who bear witness?
In anticipation of our closing screening, join us for a panel discussion with the artists involved in our 2026 Commissioning Fund Program and Mini Commissions Program. From a cohort of interdisciplinary artists spanning practices in street dance, visual arts, live performance, and experimental film, we’ll learn more about how their unique relationships to movement informed their interpretation of a curatorial theme. This intimate conversation will lift the veil on their journeys from the initial sparks of inspiration to the completion of a final film.
Information Overload!!! is a collection of cinematic responses to the ways that information consumes us from every angle. Artists ponder the existential, wondering how traditions, morality, and individual expressions are diluted by compounding trends and discourses. Themes of transformation change the pace as identities fragment and unravel. These films offer more curiosities than definitive answers—calling on us to question the normative ways we process information in its entirety.
